Bill O'Reilly has been a favorite of those who are brainwashed by the neo-conservatives, but want to believe they think independantly. In his latest column, O'Reilly revels either his ignorance or his purposeful miseducation and misinformation campaign against the American voter. Remember, O'Reilly is not some blogger (like me), he is a highly rated, and supposedly top of the line "no spin" reporter.
According to Newsmax, O'Reilly was interviewed by Broadcasting & Cable magazine. O'Reilly is reported to have stated: "I've never bought into the fact that Obama is a socialist. I think he's a classic liberal who believes big government can solve the problems of society, and he wants to redistribute income." He goes on to say: "To call these people Communists and socialists, that's as nutty as the far left calling people fascists and all of that......"
First, lets objectively define the term socialism.
Dictionary.com (it dosen't take much research to uncover holes in O'Reilly's rants) states:
so-cial-ism:
-noun
1. a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.
2. procedure or practice in accordance with this theory
3. (in Marxist theory) the stage following capitalism in the transition of a society to communism, characterized by the imperfect implementation of collectivist principles
So, is Obama a socialist? We have seen the government take capital from the public and use it to bailout and buy up industry. We have now seen the government take more control over the internal functions of those industries. This was not against Obama's, sentiment, stated plans, and philosophies. These actions were lead by Obama! Obama is clearly a socialist, and O'Reilly is and example of why we have people going around administering and advocating socialism, but refusing to call it by name.
O'Reilly's misuse of the term "classic liberal" is what really got me to stop what I was doing and post this. Obama is the furthest thing from a classical liberal.
Classical liberalism is what this country was founded upon. Also known as laissez-faire, classical liberalism is more like what people call libertarianism or traditional conservatism today. Individual freedom, free markets, and limited government are all part of the political philosophy of classical liberalism. Go ahead look it up. Wikipedia has an easy to find page on it here. I also found a page at NCPA (never been there before today) that has a lenghty writeup called "What is Classical Liberalism?" I did not read the whole thing, but in scanning, I found a summary sentance that I liked. It states: "Basically, calssical liberalism is the belief in liberty."
Reinventing the meanings to terms has been a favorite way for the policos to miseducate, confuse, hoodwink, and misinform the public for centuries. O'Reilly, has once again shown us that his is not part of the solution, he is a major thread in the matrix of lies in which we are entangled.
